About

Shri. Anitha Edward  Founder, Tisram Academy

Guru Shri Anitha Edward is a visionary artist and educator dedicated to preserving and sharing India’s rich cultural heritage through Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music. Beginning her artistic journey at the age of 7, she trained for 14 years under revered Gurus and is an esteemed alumna of the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation. Her expertise was further refined under Oscar-winning Maestro A.R. Rahman at KM Music Conservatory. With a Bachelor’s degree in Carnatic Music (India) and a Master’s in Dance Movement Therapy (Germany), she seamlessly blends artistic mastery with academic excellence. 

With over 15 years of distinguished teaching experience, including the founding of two academies (Siddhi Kala) in India in 2015, she launched Tisram Academy of Indian Arts in Germany in 2021 during the pandemic, a global platform that has brought Indian classical arts to over 150 students across 24 countries. Through her commitment to the Guru-Sishya Parampara, she ensures every student receives authentic, personalized training, cultivating discipline, confidence, and a profound connection to India’s cultural legacy.

When & where is the grand opening event held?

Please arrive 15 minutes early to settle in and enjoy the full experience without interruptions.

Who can attend the event?

Children aged 5+ and adults are welcome to attend. The session is tailored to suit different age groups.

Who will be teaching, & what will be covered in the session?

Guru Shri. Anitha Edward, a renowned artist with 15+ years of teaching experience, will introduce the basics of Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music, covering foundational movements, rhythms, and melodic concepts. Participants can ask questions and interact with the teacher. Monthly class schedules, fees, uniforms, and other details will also be shared during the event, including exclusive discounts for the opening day!

Do I need prior experience to participate?

No prior experience is necessary. The session is beginner-friendly and open to anyone interested in exploring Bharatanatyam or Carnatic Music.

What should I wear to the event? 

Participants are encouraged to wear breathable, comfortable, and modest clothing for the session. If possible, traditional. Keeping your hair tied or plaited will make it easier to move freely. If you'd like, you can also add a touch of tradition by wearing a bindi or simple jewelry like earrings, a chain, bangles, or anklets to enhance the traditional experience!

Do I need to remove my footwear?

Yes, both Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music are traditionally practiced barefoot. Please ensure your feet are clean and free of footwear during the session.

Should I bring anything?

Carry a water bottle to stay hydrated during the session. Other than that, just bring yourself and your enthusiasm!

Can I bring guests or friends to the event?

Yes, but we encourage you to reserve spots for everyone in advance to ensure they receive the full experience, including complimentary sweets.

Can I take photos or videos during the session?

We kindly request participants to avoid recording during the session to honor the tradition and stay focused on the art. Event photos will be shared afterward, and you’re welcome to take pictures before or after the event.

Is there a fee to attend the grand opening event?

No, the event is completely free of charge. Our primary aim is to provide participants with a valuable introduction to the beauty and fundamentals of Indian Classical Dance and Music.
